A Load of Legendry Lumber

The 1960's were the final decade of the Original 6 and the golden age of hockey. Expansion would happen in 1967 and change the game forever. With that being said, hockey is still amazing today no matter who you are and while fights are down and talent is up, fans in the 60's were spoiled with some amazing players including these 4 guys:

2017 Leaf Stickwork Decade Leaders Points 1960s /25

Four NHL legends who are all HOFers on one card is cool. Having a game used piece of them is even cooler. The only thing that would have topped this in my opinion is a signature or four. However, it's still a nice piece and I enjoyed landing it. Two neat bits though, first is who is the leader of these four for the decade called the 1960s? I don't believe I would have ever guessed it myself:

By a pretty large margin (41 points) the winner is Stan Mikita. What's equally interesting to me is Stan also had more PIMs than the other three and the most assists.

While the card itself just features for generic pieces of wood which would be it's loan downfall in my opinion, its a relatively low production run makes up for that a bit. Second neat fact is ITG originally made the card in 2014 and it was released by Leaf in 2017 as apart of their Stickwork release.

Anyone else out there have any of these cards? What are your thoughts? Thanks for stopping by!

1964-65 Topps Tall Boys #15 - Norm Ullman

Here is the fourth Tall Boy in my collection and I already have news, I managed to pick up a fifth! So if you are disliking these posts, the end is extended just slightly and if you like them it has be prolonged just for a bit longer. This post is about HOF'er Norm Ullman.

Norm has made an appearance in my collection before as a TTM return so I am definitely a fan of him as a person and a player. I am a pretty big fan of this card and love the look of the old gloves and the colour scheme is just awesome.

 

Here is the back side, same as the previous with facts, stats and a comic. I am not sure if Norm was insulted or flattered by his comic but personally I thought they could do a little better on this one!

Expo Cards- What are your thoughts?

A little while back, I landed a few "rookie" cards from the local swap meet which included some Expo cards. It certainly has been my experience that Expo cards are often available for a lot cheaper than their regular release counterparts and aren't respected as much.

The other day I came across this card when looking for some game-used Alex Delvecchio cards:

What do you think of this card? What would you pay for it? Is it worth any less because it is an Expo card?

I fell in love with this card almost immediately. Sawchuck, Ullman, Delvecchio and Crozier, this was one cool collection of stars and I grew up idolizing Delvecchio so this one was a little more personal than some.

Sure I am part of the (majority/minority?) who likes these gimmick cards but lets face it, Sawchuck's glove, and some game-used "sweater" pieces of some pretty amazing NHL legends is something that many collectors can appreciate.

I talked it over with my wife (I do that sometimes) and came to a price of what I felt the card was worth to me and made that my highest bid. As time went by the price didn't change, I was in the lead. With about 5 min to go the price ticked up a little bit, but in the end I did have the winning bid and I was actually about 8 bucks below my max price.

Is this card any less cool then because it is an Expo card? I honestly think I would have paid the same for this card if it wasn't an Expo card. But I am curious to your thoughts? Do you buy Expo cards?

Norm Ullman and Ron Ellis TTM

Just a few weeks after sending out some swap meet cards, the autos are coming back home!

Here are two that I received in the last week or so.

Norm's was done in black sharpie and numbered, he also signed his Hall of Fame year which is a pretty cool touch. He included a little bonus that you can see at my other post on Dirty Dangle.com

Here is the Ron Ellis autograph. Blue sharpie was the pen of choice and he numbered his card as well. Always great to get these gems back in the mail, it will be neat to see which ones from the swap meet arrive next.
