Fun with Photoshop

Definitely something I would love to do if I had more time is make my own cards. I used a template for the 88-89 OPC set and I found this nice photo of Crosby online and blammo, he is now a retro card! I always find the hardest part about making your own cards is getting the right font. If you are going to copy a style already in existance you have to make the fonts match in my opinion which can always be tough. I missed the boat a little bit with this card, but I like it anyway.

Some day I would like to try and design my own card from scratch like some of you other bloggers out there...but that I think is something for another day.

  1. Cool custom! I know what you mean with the fonts. I've done a few customs based on old set templates and thats always the one part I have trouble with.

  2. Thanks, Paul....I really like your work, I am sure you could trade/sell a few of those if you ever wanted! I did my own retro Brodeur a while back much like the missing-link one from 10-11 UD, I should try and find it and post it.

  3. I love that set. Great card--but you GOTTA have the dots on the photo.

Not sure if there's an "easy" way to do that, which is why I've avoided making customs from this set for so long.

  4. Great point, I totally forgot about the whole Hull counterfeit rookie fiasco!

I could use a high-res scan of a few from the set and randomly place them....Something to think about.

I agree, 88-89 OPC is among my top 5 sets!

  5. Hello,
What font did you use? Did you also do the O-Pee-Chee symbol as well? I'd like to try some customs of this set.

  6. Ahhh....the font was a cheat....I painstakingly cut it out and overlayed it as its own layer.

  7. I couldn't figure out the font either but I think I got close enough. I wanted to do some 88-89 OPC cards but after seeing this post, I took the plunge. I'm also going to shre them on a blog; http://jblarghcards.blogspot.com/ Thanks for the inspiration.
